
ABOUT
Jacob Zhicheng Zhang is a writer, translator, and editor working in Berlin (DE).
He was a co-founder and editor of TightBelt, a Chinese-language online journal for young arts professionals. As a bilingual individual writer, he reviews exhibitions and writes about time-based media, cinema and pop culture, and mediations of the body. Zhang's writings in English and Chinese have been published by the Art Institute of Chicago, Synoptique, Rutgers Art Review, Artforum, ArtReview, Mousse, The Art Newspaper China, LEAP, THE SEEN, and Berlin Art Link.
He is currently also a doctoral candidate in art history at the University of Toronto (CA). His doctoral research traces transnational Chinese and Sinophone art, with a focus on conceptualist art education, aesthetic autonomy, and the circulation of these ideas across Sinophone Asia, North America, and Western Europe since the 1980s.
