ABOUT

Jacob Zhicheng Zhang is a writer, translator, and editor working in Berlin (DE).

He was a co-founder and editor of TightBelt, a Chinese-language online journal for young arts professionals. As a bilingual individual writer, he reviews exhibitions and writes about time-based media, cinema and pop culture, and mediations of the body.​ Zhang's writings in English and Chinese have been published by the Art Institute of Chicago, SynoptiqueRutgers Art ReviewArtforumArtReviewMousseThe Art Newspaper ChinaLEAPTHE SEEN, and Berlin Art Link.​

He is currently also a doctoral candidate in art history at the University of Toronto (CA). His doctoral research traces transnational Chinese and Sinophone art, with a focus on conceptualist art education, aesthetic autonomy, and the circulation of these ideas across Sinophone Asia, North America, and Western Europe since the 1980s.
