Jacob Zhicheng Zhang is a writer, translator, and researcher of arts and art history based in Berlin (DE) and Toronto (CA). Jacob received a BA in Art and Chemistry from Colby College (US). After working briefly in art conservation, Jacob obtained an MA in Modern and Contemporary Art History from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (US). Currently, Jacob is an art history PhD student at the University of Toronto (CA). Jacob's research interests revolve around Sinophone transnational art and exhibition practices since the 1980s, art education histories in postsocialist and liberal democratic contexts, Asian and Asian North American queer strategies in artmaking, and art produced in time-based media.

Jacob was one of the writers-in-residence during the Summer 2021 edition of the Momus Emerging Critics Residencies. In 2019, Jacob was a curator-in-residence at the 2nd Shanghai Curators Lab organized by the Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts and the Shanghai Biennale. Jacob's writings in English and Chinese have been published by the Art Institute of Chicago, Synoptique: An Online Journal of Film and Moving Image Studies, ArtReviewMousseThe Art NewspaperLEAPTHE SEEN, and Berlin Art Link.
